Yeah, Thanks to Frank is pure raw Vinnie. I read he recorded the album totally cold.

Funny enough, that album was playing in between all sets at the last Montral DrumFest. Good choice!!

For me it's probably the Randy Waldman "Wigged Out" CD or the Mahavishnu Tribute CD "Visions of an inner mounting apocalypse", but, all the other one's mentioned previously are burning. "Ten Summoners Tales" is still a desert island favorite as well.

This might as well be one of our many "selected essential Vinnie listening" threads over the years [search function?]...

"Whut drumaddict said." ;-]

Chick Corea Elektric Band+ sax'ist ERIC MARIENTHAL's "CROSSROADS" disc has some really sick Vince AND Weckl [AWA TLC & Acuna]...

Also, the track Against the Clock off Holdsworth's Wardenclyffe Tower is some seriously sick phrasing. [This may have been a session left over from Vince's Secrets stint...] This whole disc contains some seriously stellar drumming from Husband, Wackerman, AWA Vinnie each on their selected tracks].

[Already mentioned]:
_The BRMSC2 vid [Ho-Lee-She-Height],
_Zappa's Shut Up n' Play Yer Guitar, Joe's Garage, & Tinseltown Rebellion -good call, ben [yowza] - VC's fuso-influenced reggae/ska/calypso is staggering & the fuso-standard...;-p
_Patitucci's 1st self-titled solo effort [AWA Sketchbook] were always perennial, quintessential mind-blowers AW...

Those Pasqua boots off Holmes' mother HOD site don't quite s*ck now either, do they...

I must admit...altho VC is undoubtably an incredilble drumming virtuoso, AWA 1 of my all-time faves, on the CCNAB/AB2 Blue Note Tokyo, i prefer Weckl on the more SA-jazz-standard type CCAB1 stuff...VC is a little too fusionistically bombastic on this stuff for me [altho it is still indeed stellar contempo drumming regardless - pls read that again a few more times]. But on the fuso stuff such as Tumba Island, Vinne rips it a new one. JMHFO

Hi Guys,

Maybe that now I would say that Steve Tavaglione's "Blue Tav" with Allan Holdsworth's "Secret" could be the most Vinnie's furious performance for me with of course the Buddy Rich Memorial !!!

What he does with Warren Cuccurullo is AWESOME, but the music has no sens for me.

Peace.
